Tips to Conquer Chaos before a Move

Author : Andrew Bermam
Moving is big business and before a move comes the agony of deciding what to take with you. Well organizing experts and moving gurus recommend "conquering chaos" as the first step in doing a simple, effective, and organized move. You won't realize it but most of us live amidst chaos and over years tend to accumulate clutter. Pack rats are what we tend to become. Shut your emotions aside and decide I am going to conquer. The ABCs of clutter and simple, you need determination, discipline, and organization.Arm yourself with a note pad, markers, boxes, garbage bags, and tape. Set a schedule that indicates place as well as time. Wear comfortable clothes, put on some music and begin. The questions you need to ask yourself are: Do I love X? When did I use it last? Am I likely to ever use it? Will someone else find use for it? Does it have sentimental value? Anything that has never been used and does not bring a smile or fond memories goes into the unwanted or give away box.Donate what is nearly new or new and in working condition. Throw away everything else. Seal each bag or box and work diligently until the room is cleared. Now reorganize what you are gong to keep into everyday use, seasonal, and used rarely. Plan on storing everyday use in easy to access places; store seasonal in tops shelves of closets or in a basement or attic if you have one; rarely can go into hard to reach spots like under the sink or in a loft.Keep to your plan and soon you will find that you have truly conquered chaos. Even after you move into your new home you can adopt decluttering as a way of life. Do a little periodically and it will work its magic.• Recognize clutter and decide I am not going to live in chaos.• Put aside the thought that "what if I need x, y, or z sometime in life." If you have not used an object in a whole year it is clutter.• Giving can be a happy event. So, share what is excess in you life with have nots. Imagine a room full of kids playing with toys that have lain unused in your attic or reading books your kids have outgrown. There is great happiness and satisfaction in sharing.• More of anything is not needed. Give away duplicates or extras. If the one you have does not work repair it or get a new one when the time comes but don't hoard.Once you decide to live life free of burdens you will be happier and have more space. So, even before planning a move tackle chaos.Andrew Bermam is a freelance writer for http://www.1888MovingCompanies.com, the premier website to find help on Moving including topics on moving companies search, compare movers, moving insurance, auto transport, moving tips and more.
