Climbing Mount Everest - Is it Character Changing?

Author : Siva Parvati
On first glance, many people think a walk to the top of the highest mountain in the world is going to be a life changing experience. Is it? I have known people who have come back from trying to get to the base camp of Mount Everest at 17,585 ft. They are impressed with the majesty of natural beauty that they have seen. They have seen their friends die trying to get higher. What is this all about? The answer to life's problems is not doing some death defying exercise. Instead, you take your troubled personality with you to the exercise. Perhaps you grow from it or perhaps you do not. You come back and think, 'that was then, this is now'. Your old personality takes hold again and you lose sight of the experience. Instead, people need to search within themselves. Try to figure out what they need to do to calm down and correct their attitude. At 29,015 feet, this attitude will not change. A CEO of a high tech company went to base camp and on his return, he looked as troubled as when he left. Actually he looked even more troubled and riddled with life's questions. His partner died trying to climb to the top. What is this all about? What people really need to do is to get in touch with themselves. Yoga and meditation are the easiest and most effective tools for developing personality. After becoming comfortable with those tools, a trip to the highest mountain will really change your life. During that trek, you are not meeting yourself for the first time.A variety of personal interests and professional paths have led Siva to her current role as a personal trainer and yoga instructor with over 20 years experience.
