Mobile Detailing Work Vehicle tips

Author : Lance Winslow
Have you ever driven down the highway and every half a mile or so you see a towel in the road? You wonder; "gee that is a pretty nice towel" but it is too dangerous to stop and pick it up. Do you ever wonder where it came from? Some might think it came from some poor sole who keeps losing the laundry out of the back of their pickup? Yet most of those towels are from mobile detailers who fail to secure all their supplies after leaving a parking lot and are in a hurry to get to their next appointment. If you are mobile car washer or auto detailer you know those towels cost money so maybe you have stopped to pick up a few? Here are some tips to keep this from happening to you, so you do not lose stuff on the road way or cost yourself a bundle of cash or towels.Roll Up EverythingBefore getting onto a freeway or going above 45 mph make sure: Towels are packed down; No loose paper or trash taken from previous cars is laying around loose in the truck bed or on the mobile detailing trailer; Pressure hose is rolled up; Vacuum hoses are secure; No products or supply containers under one-quarter full are laying around; Glance at operational flood lights to make sure they won't be whipped around in the windYou'll be glad you did. Try and make this a brief 15-second preflight procedure. Once you are in the habit, you'll do it without thinking. Remember towels cost $1.00 to $3.00 each. Every detailer has their favorite towels, you would hate to lose those due to a careless worker or forgetting to secure your cargo prior to jetting to the next appointment.I have seen many a detailer dragging a 15 foot vacuum hose which is wearing a hole in it as it drags. If you have a mobile type business you know these things happen. Another common occurrence is to have extension cords drag or get caught around tires and rip off. Electric buffers, carpet extractors or vacuums do not work to well with your portable generator when the cord has been severed.Pressure washer guns once dragged behind a vehicle never work quite right again and if they catch on a tire it could rip the entire pressure washer, unloader assemble or hose completely from the vehicle or trailer. It might be hard to explain to a customer that although you have just made the appointment in the nick of time, you cannot clean their car because your equipment has been destroyed because you did not pay attention. And if you did tell them that, what are the chances they will still trust you with their SUV or high priced automobile? Think about it.Lance Winslow - Online Think Tank forum board.
