The Family Table

Author : Rick Hayes
While setting in my living room the other day I began to reminisce about the memories within my life's path. While the memories became visual frames, my eyes focused toward the dining room. It was as though I was to remember the many joys from a simple piece of furniture – the dining room table.I begin to recall the many gifts this table had given to me, and the memories that will never be forgotten. I could visualize my children so very young, laughing and sharing their thoughts while attempting to balance the peas on their fork. The many celebrations as we gathered around the table to blow out the candles or to give thanks for the blessings we have received. I could recall with respect and honor my parents sharing their stories of their own memories, while we finished the last of the apple pie. The image of a personal dinner with my now grown children a few nights before my son was to leave for his career in the military. Each experience so vivid, each memory so fulfilling, all from this crafted wood they call a dining table. While I continued to visualize each memory with a smile, I begin to think about my loved ones who have moved on. Often I am asked if I feel that those who have moved on will be together and will know one another. In other words, will they enjoy- The Family Table.Have you ever thought about why you are within a certain family, whether by birth or adoption? Is there a reason why your father is your dad or your mother is your mom? Why were they a part of your grandparent's path, and why are they your grandparents? It is even a mystery to us why we are connected in our life's plan with those we acknowledge as brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Why is it that you are connected to your family, and not another?I truly feel that when we are created we are given a unique path and earthly plan. Along one's path is placed a very special love called family. The family connection assists in our earthly growth from which we learn life's lessons. We learn from the trials that we endure within the family or the joy we experience from the love that only a family can give. You may be a part of a very small family, or a family filled with many. Some may enjoy what appears as a family without hardships, while others may experience a family filled with ongoing trials.Individually one may hear 'you act just like your grandfather did when he was a boy' or 'you have the exact smile as your grandmother'. One may even find an old photograph of a great-grandmother as a child who 'is a carbon copy of how you looked at the same age'. Whether connected by appearance or personality, each family has a special unique connection through life's generations.Setting at your family table may be those who were given a life's plan after those who have moved on, such as a young child who never had the opportunity to feel grandmother's hug. Would the grandmother know this loving grandchild, even though she completed her earthly plan before the child's birth? Why would she not know, she is a part of your family table. The family table is one of complete amazement to me, as seated hand-in hand are those family members still in earth's plan – connected with those loved ones who have moved on.They know one another as they know you, all a unique loving part of -
